Jewelz - The Prima Donna
Hello.
I want to be a model. Don't be fooled by my usernam/url-name/blog title (whatever you bloggers call it). I'm not exactly a "Prima Donna". Though I must admit i'm utterly spoilt! Spoilt rotten with L.O.V.E ^ ^ and I have only one person to thank - God. Yes, I am very blessed!
The notion of this blog started because I wanted to jot down my experiences... my journey to becoming a model (be it if I succeed/fail). I want to talk about the people i've met along the way - the assholes (trust me... there are TONS!) and the angels along the way, who guided and cheered me along. I want to document my ups, my downs, my excitements, my confusions. I don't know if this blog would ever be read by anyone, but hey! I want to remember this time of my life and hopefully share it with some willing readers :)
Neways, I'm gonna start with a little story... a story which... maybe familiar to a lot of you (or at least i'm sure you heard this from others before...)
Donkey years ago, there was this little girl who always dreamed to be a model... by the age of 16, she was 170cm tall... athletic (you get the picture right? She's pretty tall for her age - especially from Asian heritage). Basically, she wanted to model. Like I pointed out earlier, having grown up in Singapore with Asian parents, her parents were never encouraging. "If you have what it takes, and an agency wanted you, you won't be required to pay for a portfolio...." or "Theres so many bad people in that industry. Later you get cheated than you know!" or "To be a model in Singapore? Aiya, models cannot become famous in Singapore one la!!" (stressing about the small fashion industry in Singapore) or "How long can you be a model for? Do you know the career span is very short?!" These sounds of warnings just kept repeating, like a broken record player.
But she was determined.
When she was 14/15? She saved money - SG$100. Found in the papers an agency (which is damn wulu (unknown)) who was looking for models. It was an agency which specializes in bridal shots? And invested in some pictures. Her picture was published to help promote the company. But she never had any calls for assignments. Kanna cheated. She did all these without telling her mother. She never gave up. Often she would go under classifieds and look for ads looking for models. Again, she found this "agency" Later she learnt it was a new company. Nice, quiet, Chinese guy who started the company. He seems pretty honest (though the office is damn far away... and wulu (here, it means some really unknown out of the way place). He will provide makeup classes for free. No portfolio fees. Decent. Got the first call not long after. The assignment was to model at some wrestling prize giving ceremony. So basically, she (and a few other girls) was on stage, dressed in cheong shams, handing out awards to the prize giver. She never got paid for the job. Nor did she hear from the guy ever again. Kanna cheated AGAIN!
Sigh....
But she never gave up! Still, she continued looking... hoping and praying. The only reason she never went to big agencies was because, she was worried they would ask her to pay for a portfolio. Which could come up to a few hundred dollars. Where was she gonna find those kinds of money?? Neways, back to the story....
Again, it was a casting call from an agency. You've guessed it! She found it on the newspaper... this time, she was probably 18 already. With the help of another model friend (a guy mind you ;D ) He helped her with her makeup, and kept his fingers crossed while she went for the interview and test shoot (no fees required). That day, she met one of the most interesting person - a transvestite. A Malay male with really really long hair. Whats worst? He/she was the interviewer! Please don't mistaken. She was very comfortable around him... not really caring if he was a transvestite. She had always wanted a Gay (not exactly transvestite) best friend! She always remembers the 2 transvestites in Zouk, where she would join them in their dancing rage, and party the night away! The interview went really really well. He/she even invited her that night to a transvestite lounge/club? Where they performed and sang. It was a real eye opener for her ^ ^ She even brought her mom along!
The agency liked her, and wanted to sign a contract with her. A manager will be assigned to her. Her first assigned to her is an ad for a watch company. He won't tell her what the company's name was. The managers name was Luke. A very nice guy. Gave her his number, and said she could call whenever. The agency informed her that if she joined their company, she will be required to do community service i.e. visit the old folks home. Told her that once she signed the contract, she cannot back out. If she does, she will be blacklisted for the rest of her life i.e. she would not be able to go back to the agency and etc. She was scared. She told them she would consider it. And bare in mind, she has never told her mom about this "later you get cheated again ah!".... In her mind, she knew it would be a contract she would be signing. Without her mother's approval, she does not want to sign anything. Then again, if she told her mom, she might just tell her not to do it!
She went on her holiday to Indonesia... came back... and never signed the papers...
She gave up on her ideals of becoming a model... went to Canada to study and graduated.....
Now, shes back in FULL FORCE! And wants to fulfill that life long dream ^ ^
End of Story ^^
Yawn.... the story is making me sleepy lol... Its bed time for me.
Good night people...
